Wow. Didnt hear that.

Celebs die in threes. So we have Mike Nichols, and Marion Berry. Who's next? Well -Bill Cosby- if you count death of a career without literal death.Lol!

In the depths of my humongous record collection I have a late Eighties Vinyl LP of the Godfather of GoGo Chuck Brown and the Soul Searcher called "Any Way to Go". It already had a little notch cut in the cardboard sleeve indicating that it was out of print when I bought it. It has a live track called "Go Go Drug Free" in which mayor Marion Berry ascends the stage and attempts to rap. He pauses to say "wow! This is harder than being mayor!" But he sounds pretty good as he exhorts the young people of the nation's capital to "stay away from drugs". This was a year or two before he was busted for smoking crack. Hilariously sad, or tragically funny, depending upon how you look at it. Either way its an interesting piece of surpressed musical Washingtonianna.

Sadly, the only thing I can recall about him is his ignoble drug use (as if there's noble drug use). :(

from the WSJ-
"Mr. Barry, dubbed “Mayor for Life” by Washington City Paper columnist Ken Cummins, died early Sunday at United Medical Center in Washington, a day after being released from Howard University Hospital, according to a statement from his family. It didn’t give a cause of death, but Mr. Barry had suffered from several health problems over the years, including diabetes. He underwent a kidney transplant in 2009."
