This story is a few days old but I haven't had a chance to post it earlier because I haven't had internet at home for past 4 days (any posts I've made was using the GPRS on my cellphone).
Anyway, Pierre Korkie, a South African school teacher who was held hostage by Al Qaida in Yemen for much of the past year was shot and killed in a failed US raid attempting to rescue the american hostage Luke Somers who was held alongside him. Unfortunately, Luke Somers was also killed during this raid. The tragedy here is that the NGO, Gift of the Givers, was negotiating Korkie's release and he was killed just hours before he was due to be released. The americans claim that they didn't know that he was being held alongside Somers. The thing is I don't think one can really blame the americans at all for this, Al Qaida are the ones responsible for both deaths and this type of thing is one of the reasons why I hate them. What gives them the right to kidnap people and threaten to behead them if ransom money isn't payed?
