...exposed by ‘Prime Time Investigates’ undercover filming. (Health Service Executive)

I have just watched the sickest modern example of Institutionalised abuse in an Irish state home in July 2014 for people with intellectual disabilities. Beyond upsetting, I am ashamed to be Irish today.

Ivy McGinty, Mute, ID, Autistic. Abuse examples: Kicked, pushed, pinched, prodded, poked, slapped repeatedly, forced to sit for hours, tortured (sensory), hit with keys, taunted, dragged across floor, refused access to toilet facilities, continuous rough treatment, forced to apologise after male staff member sat on her for entertainment.

The psychological and emotional abuse is beyond description.

Staff suspended with pay.

Please, if you watch the footage, be warned it is extremely distressing, at present it is not available on the internet.

Couldnt find it, says 'error', but maybe it's just my computer.

Staff suspended with pay????! !! Staff should be thrown in jail for years, maximum security, with terrorists for all I care. Publish lashing with bicycle chains is called for. A male staff member sat on her for entertainment? Starts to sound like sexual abuse here.

Only tough punishments will deter sickos from doing this again to someone else. That's the only way, and there's just no other way. Those people obviously enjoy inflicting pain, psychopaths. They'll never change, but they can feel fear and decide it's not in their best interest to pull something like this ever again.

Suspended with pay means they get paid for not working, and that's more a price than punishment. Leave me alone with them in a room, and they'll get their next meals through a straw for the next six months.

I wrote that list as I watched Prime Time Investigates last night, its sick, beyond words, beyond disturbing that this abuse was perpetuated by qualified Nurses and healthcare workers. The manager of House 3 was also involved, none of the uninvolved employees reported it. This was a snapshot of what the most vulnerable in our society experienced, it disgusts me and has led to public outrage, I think that many people assumed that the culture of abuse in state care and 'turning a blind eye' was confined to the dark historical relationship with the Catholic Church.

Hopefully this link will work (distressing images)

I don’t know if countries outside of Ireland can access this service, though I’m sure there are ways around that for the technically savvy.
