Afghan woman with a disability lynched by mob

A false accusation of quran burning was levelled against an Afghan woman with a reported psychological disability (she may have had Aspergers because she was a university graduate). The result was a group of 26 Afghan men tortured her including pummelling her with rocks dropping her of the top of a building and running over her with a vehicle.

The worst part of the story is that the accusations were totally false. This is now the worst story I think have read in the news pertaining to a person with a disability. I simply cant fathom how human beings can do this to a totally innocent and harmless person for absolutely no good reason. Please keep in mind thousands of Russians and western soldiers (including Australians) have died trying to help protect these people.

Even if the charge was true, it's a despicable thing to have done to this poor woman.

Combine backwardness and religion, this is what you'll get. Afghanistan has plenty of both.
And these people should really stop with the anger about book burning or being offended by cartoons, grow up, no one gives a s**t about your religion anyway.

I fear that any Afghan woman who earns a university degree risks being charged with blasphemy, desecrating the Quran, or similar law, and made an example of in a violent way by Afghan men who fear losing control over their female slaves women.

yeah, sounds pretty accurate.

Doing god's work! It is surprising that I respect them more than most religious work as at least they following their arcanic rules properly.

I understand what you are saying, but I still prefer they were hypocrites and only followed the nice rules of their religion and not the nutty ones.

The Quran forbids 'holy items' or good luck charms.

In that town is a family which has sold such things in the marketplace for years.

Everyone has chosen to turn a blind eye to this flagrant disobedience of the holy book that so many Muslims are willing to kill or die for.

One day, this woman told them to their faces, publicly, that they were wrong, disobeying Allah, needed to stop selling these sinful/idolatrous things, and quoted the Quran to them.

They then started a rumor that she had burned a Quran.

That is why she was murdered

The mob that killed her believed that she had turned against Islam and destroyed a Quran, when in truth, she was an extremely devout Muslim who was upset by the actions of a family who was, in the eyes of the faithful, disgracing Islam.

Hopefully they will be punished as the Quran commands, since they claim to be faithful.

I think what happened was worse than barbaric--and that the mob participants should all be put in prison for decades (at least).

We have to stop this sort of crap from happening.

We tried with W's war and occupation, but it's still happening. W thought if you just offer people freedom, then they'd do the right thing and be happy about it. He never cared to take centuries of backward acculturation into account. I genuinely wish we could do something to stop sh*t like this from happening, but for that to happen, the Afghan people have to change first, and that doesn't appear to be happening anytime soon.
