While I'm all for equal opportunity BS...
Where children's relationships with their parents are concerned, absent horrific abuse or egregious neglect, I'd much prefer to see NO BS.
I don't care what's hanging between their legs. People who turn their children into a battleground in divorce proceedings are selfish, thoughtless, immature jackasses who need to get their heads the hell out of the middle school restroom.
Are my parents the ONLY TWO PEOPLE ON THE PLANET who managed to divorce civilly, share custody in a reasonable and mature manner, and NOT f**k UP THEIR KID?!?!
As many crappy things as have happened in my life, I have to give snaps to my parents. Their treatment of each other and of me relative to each other was STERLING. It was one thing in my life that was in no way, shape, or form a cause of my issues. They were not exceptionally mentally healthy or more than a little higher than average in intelligence. They were an ASD guy and the extremely confused daughter of an ASD father with multiple issues and a passive-aggressive social climber of a mother. They did not have any special tools that the rest of the world does not possess, other than, apparently, a willingness to put their own issues aside where the love, care, and well-being of their only child was concerned.
If they could do it, anyone can. GROW THE f**k UP, PEOPLE.
Of course, I guess the "good divorces" never make headlines...
One of these days I'm going to write a memoir. Working title: "Luckiest Kid in the World."
