Here is a scoop about a new very deadly species of snake "oxyuranus temporalis" or the Central Ranges Taipan.
In Papua New Guinea Oxyuranus Scutellatus kills and estimated 800 people a year and death is garranteed without anti-venom treatment.

Figures they'd find it in PNG. I'd say there's more species there to be discovered, as they found new species somewhere in PNG last year or the year before....

83% of fatal bites in PNG can be attributed to the world's most lethal known snake, the Papuan taipan (Oxyuranus Scutellatus Cannii). Snakebite deaths had now reached epidemic proportions in PNG and has now become a national emergency due to the lack of supply of anti-venom. Unless you have received a dry bite from a taipan (not venom injected) which is extremely unlikely the chances of you surviving its bite is nil without anti-venom.
