Hello,

Did anyone see ABC news (America) last night? (not sure the day, time is messed up)

(I get it here in Baghdad by satellite through Dubai.)

There was a nice piece on autism specificlly Aspergers Syndrome almost 5 minutes long.

Talked with a couple of young people who described being picked on for being different.

It was not terribly in depth, but the show is only 1/2 an hour anyway.

I figure the more people who know about the Asperger's the better.

ABC had it on this week as segments on its nightly news
and also much of the segment was on NIGHTLINE... the late night
tv show Ted Koppel began more than two decades ago.

This bullying issue MAkes me just want to scream! But then I realize that we just have to try evan harder to educate the masses. Ohh, there is just so much work to be done!

Yes we do,

I was bullied all of my life even though I was always bigger than the damn bullies.

I sent plenty of them running away crying.

you don't seem to care if you try to bully women, though, Aspie or not.

I just watched it. I couldn't help but think that one guy was stupid for going around telling strangers at school he has AS. If he only knew what a dumb move that was...

A direct result of dealing with as*holes my whole life was to become hyper sensitive and defensive. If someone, anyone messes with me, insults my personality, my intelligence, my looks, anything, I will come back at you full bore damn the consequences.

I will not physically hurt a woman, but if she wants to attack and insult, she should expect the same, I do not feel that gender should have anything to do with it.

I totally agree...that should be done on a case by case basis, all some of those people are hearing from him is: "hello I'm defective/a freak"

I agree. It's a very dumb move for somebody to go around saying that they have AS.

Well, not out in public like that. I'm open about the way I am but I'm not going to post posters with a picture me with arrows subtitled "I have AS!!"

I'm disappointed I missed the shows. I just wanted to say though I don't think all the tv exposure in the world is going to stop bullying of Aspies. People that bully do not have compassion. If they find out someone is a weird little nerd that flaps his hands, etc. he is not going to feel sorry for him for being a weirdo. He will just bully him even more knowing he is autistic. What we really need is to stop bullying and severely punish those that bully or harrass anyone whether they be disabled, Aspie or just an unpopular NT.

A. My learning of AS about myself is the great (belated) explanation of my social problems.
B. There's no hiding it - some people will always know there's something wrong with me, usually the bullies themselves.
C. I'm trying to find a job. I was hoping that sharing this powerful insight with interviewers, bosses, etc would be enlightening, empowering, and simply honest, hopefully preventing future embarrassments, misunderstandings, problems.

Is it instead totally naive and stupid?

What do i do, knowing the worst people will see it and take advantage, that there will be inevitable problems - and this explains it? Office politics is my eternal, opaque, malicious enemy. I'm smart and conscientious enough to do the work, but ALWAYS there's someone who despises me, for no reason I can understand.

I've found "the workplace" to be soul-destroying poison. So how do I deal with it????

I have the same problem. I find myself kicking myself for having trusted someone I work with with my personal opinions and feelings. I am so trusting, I think everyone is my friend and confidant. Even after years of making this same mistake followed by much self-kicking, I still do it. My only answer is that you have to learn not to trust anyone at work and just shut up. And that's hard for me to do.
