Atlantic:
The Feds Arrest an Alleged Leaker

Reality Winner, an NSA contractor, was charged with sending classified information to a digital news outlet.

Quote:
Federal prosecutors filed a criminal complaint against a government contractor in Georgia for sharing classified information with a news outlet on Monday, a rare move despite the surge in leaks from within the federal government since President Trump took office.

The Justice Department said FBI investigations arrested Reality Leigh Winner, a 25-year-old federal contractor from Atlanta, Georgia, for violating federal law that prohibits the distribution of classified defense information. Winner is an employee of Pluribus International Corporation, which provides a range of defense and intelligence contracting services to the federal government.

This is the information she admits to leaking:

The Intercept: Top-Secret NSA Report Details Russian Hacking Effort Days Before 2016 Election

Quote:
The top-secret National Security Agency document, which was provided anonymously to The Intercept and independently authenticated, analyzes intelligence very recently acquired by the agency about a months-long Russian intelligence cyber effort against elements of the U.S. election and voting infrastructure. The report, dated May 5, 2017, is the most detailed U.S. government account of Russian interference in the election that has yet come to light.

Looks like Winner might end up a loser.

It kinda amuses me the Atlantic manages to tie Trump into this like it's fault or whatever, even though Winner is on record as being anti-Trump. The Atlantic is another one of those who seem to have something about Trump as their main headline every time I look at it.

What I noted in the Intercept article was:

Quote:
While the document provides a rare window into the NSA’s understanding of the mechanics of Russian hacking, it does not show the underlying “raw” intelligence on which the analysis is based

Which to me basically says, it provides a rare window into how the NSA pieces pieces together, but doesn't show any of the actual pieces. So there's still been no hard data released.

I hope the government doesn't throw her under the bus for this. They probably will.

I'd be mighty leery of Russia now, based on this information.

Message has to be sent, she's not the only one and I think there are a lot of powerful people she'll be falling on the sword for.

So are you demanding Snowden be extradited too?

As far as I know George Soros has never been tied to any intelligence agency ever...is there any relevance to his inclusion?

Do we need two threads on this topic?

Arresting Reality Winning and the applicable search warrant, is standard procedure because she committed a crime (separate from the hacks) and violated her security clearance. She will get a trial, as should Snowden.

Here is the leaked document by Reality Winner:

You leak and get caught you go to trial, and if found guilty you go to jail. End of story, regardless of political affiliation or intent. We're a country based on rule of law, if you don't like the law lobby your representatives to get it changed. That goes for things such as civil disobedience as well, that's just how the process works in a system built on rule of law, and I'm 100% behind that.

Exactly and it's good practice... But then Obama ends up commuting Manning, completely disgraceful.

It's allowed by law, same with Bush and Libby. Again, I may disagree but I'll stick to what the law allows, and that's pretty much dictatorial powers in the executive branch when it comes to commutations and the like.

The craziest part of this whole story is the fact that Reality Winner, is in fact, really her name. I swear, I thought it was someone who won a reality show who got charged when I first read that article.

Yeah I was really confused by that when the story first broke. It helped that the OP included the middle name to make it look more like a person's name.
