Prince is dead. He wrote and performed "1999", "When Doves Cry", and "Red Corvette". There is no one with a radio, TV or Internet connection who does not know these facts.

So why does the Media keep slapping us in the face with the same reports every 15 minutes? Would some news anchors be considered "uncool" by their peers if they failed to gush over every aspect of Prince's life and death? Is this news really so important that local news is ignored in favor of in-depth and emotional sound bites by every strangers that have a microphones shoved in their faces?

I fully expect this travesty of journalist reporting to continue for at least another week. In the meantime, I'll be catching up on my reading ... real books ... with pages and printed words ...

News reports on the news people want to hear, Prince was a big star and they figure a lot of people are watching that normally aren't because of it

Never watch the news nor hardly ever listen to the radio. So I'm happily oblivious. I wasn't a fan, anyway.

But they tend to do that.

No, the Media delivers the news that the Media wants their listeners / readers / viewers to pay attention to. It has less to do with relevant reporting, and more to do with popularity ratings.

Don't get me wrong, Prince was a fantastically talented individual.

I just wish that news about ordinary people - such as the drunk driver who ploughed his truck into cars parked in front of my house on Thursday morning - was given enough importance to actually be reported on the local news station.

I was thinking about that today while waiting for an appointment. They had the tv on in the waiting room, and I did notice how they kept showing news spots talking about his death. They were interviewing people, and talking about what a horrible tragedy it was. All kinds of people had gathered to mourn. But people die all the time in tragic ways, and many times they are barely mentioned, if at all.

It seems as though when a celebrity dies, the world has to stop, but few people care about things such as the crash of Malaysia airlines flight MH17, where 298 people died. Or when there are tsunamis that kill thousands, mudslides, earthquakes, etc. Nobody cares. But Prince dies from the flu and it's like the worst thing that has ever happened.

He was a Jehovah's Witness anyway, and I know he's refused medical treatment before because of his beliefs. I'm not sure if that's the case this time, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Old joke news headline from the Cold War era:

"Russian Nuclear Missiles Strike California! Michael Jackson and Eight Million Others Die!"

Prince was beloved by most of the developed world.

You seem surprised that the ratings driven U.S. new and media would cover it to a large extent.

It doesn't help that Prince died under suspicious circumstances.

Slow news day + one semi-interesting story = that one story being replayed ad nauseam.

Not surprised; angry. We know he's dead already, so there is no need to keep reminding us.

What suspicious circumstances? Space aliens?

He led the fast and loose lifestyle of the rich and famous. He was sick for weeks. He was 57 years old. He died alone.

I've led a relatively quite middle-class lifestyle. I eat right and exercise. I had my first heart attack at 52, and my second at 58. Had my wife not been home with me both times, I might not be here.

I suppose that it was inevitable that conspiracy theories begin before the autopsy on his body was even underway. No one knows yet how he died, only that there was no sign of self-induced trauma. People will speculate on anything, just to make themselves feel good and to impress others.

Oh yeah? Well I haven't seen any proof of your whereabouts at the time of his death. Do you have an alibi? You seem really anxious to have people move on from this devastating tragedy. Seems a little suspicious, doesn't it .........

Actually, I'm on several pieces of video footage, being interviewed by a news crew regarding the accident in front of my house at about the same time that Prince died. Too bad the Media's obsession with celebrity deaths means that my fact-based and in-depth analysis of the events leading up to the accident will likely never be aired.

Why should I give a damn about his death, since most people could give a damn if I lived or died. As a matter of fact, most people would rather see me dead, so the could dance, spit, p!ss and sh!t on my grave.
