So apparently Steam's features violate some of British Telecom's patents. This includes the Steam library, chat, messaging, and broadcasting features. BT has been wanting to sue Valve over these "infringements" since almost a year ago. Now these patents seem generic and vague and lots of other online services use them so I don't understand why Valve is a main target. Valve has not responded because this could just be a case of patent trolling. BT has tried it before and failed. Here's the bad part, the case is being settled in Delaware, a patent trolling friendly state. The worse part is if BT wins, Valve may lose a lot, lot, LOT of money. BT may even force them to discontinue Steam. I use Steam as my main source of PC gaming and I don't want to see it go away.

I have just started to scratch the surface of patenting my own intellectual property, am of the understanding that Google can be used to document my invention, it can be international, and the UN is taking-over parts of the internet.

I would like it, best, if my invention was free for public use, and corporate use paid a royalty.
