Not just ignoring people while walking by. I remember how not many years ago during the last Presidential campaign, Mitt Romney had answered a question from voter about the wrongness of corporate personhood with: "Corporations are people, my friend," dismissively laughing and turning away, as if that voter wasn't worth another second of his time.

I'm poor, but sometimes I avoid looking at people because I might stare by accident, I'm caught up in my own thoughts or to avoid/ignore someone I don't want much to do with.

What a bunch of malarkey. I don't look at people and I'm not rich - I'm just disinterested.

It makes sense. They only have time for you if they recognize your social status is equal to theirs.

It's like an attractive girl will be flattered if a attractive well dressed man chatted her up. If an average looking fella tried the same trick he'd end up with mace in his eyes...

screw the rich and the high horse they rode in on, all they do nowadays is export jobs and shuffle other people's money. i'd just as soon have them walk through my fermented black bean cloud as look at 'em. :x

People in big cities usually don't have time to not ignore most people as they walk by.

in midtown Manhattan, for example, researchers counted 26,831 pedestrians passing through the block between 54th and 55th streets on Fifth avenue in the space of three hours. LINK

These people cannot pay attention to all the people who pass them and still have any time to live:

It doesn't indicate anything about their psychology, haughtiness, narcissism or anything else than they have adapted to practical realities of big city living.

too many of 'em don't but that is less noticeable out in the fresh air, and more noticeable in an enclosed space. :eew:
