US President Donald Trump has attacked NASA for apparently talking about “going to the moon” — and has even claimed the moon is a part of Mars.
The unusual comments were posted on Friday US time. The president declared that NASA, which the Trump administration recently pushed to refocus on the moon, should in fact not be striving to travel there again.
The comments may have caused confusion, since his administration aims to restart moon landings by 2024.

I really, really hope that he was just being lazy and meant something else but that got published because he didn't check it over.

You mean like the one America failed on the 8th November 2016?

If Jimi Hendrix could keep it straight that Earth is "the Third Stone From the Sun" while he was tripping on acid you would think that a straight and sober POTUS could keep a better grip on basic astronomy than thinking that "the moon is part of Mars".

Lincoln used to write what he called "hot letters" to folks he was angry at, just to get it out of his system, and then throw the letters into the waist basket. Then next day he would smile, and backslap, and horsetrade, with the senator he had scathed in his last hot letter the night before. And get stuff done. And not embarrass the nation the way Trump does with his tweets.

Trump ought to do something like what Lincoln would do, and maybe send these tweets as emails to some trusted aid (maybe to Invanka) just to vent, before he and the advisor decide to ok them for the public. Just a suggestion.

Trump is a spoilt trust fund baby who's father bailed him out of any hardship that other kids his age had to endure. He has got away with so much in his life that he frankly doesn't give a toss...

He is wrong. The moon is made of cheese that has been spoiled by the deep state.

Well I know this comes off as defending Trump, but sorry it is silly to me to see the grasping of straws at any opportunity. He said "they say windmills cause cancer". And of course this must mean that he thinks they cause cancer. Even though many people have said things like "they say cellphones cause cancer". Or "they say the earth is flat". Saying what they say something is not saying that thing yourself.

As for the moon he said: “They should be focused on the much bigger things we are doing, including Mars (of which the Moon is a part), Defense and Science!”

I think that most likely what he meant is just that, that lunar exploration is a part of exploring Mars in the chain of events.

But it can't be like that. It has to be Trump thinks the moon is a physical part of Mars wahahahaha!

Reminds me when people flipped out over Trump talking about a space force, and then it turned out a highly respected scientist was talking about a space force years before that.

Even if he originally meant that the moon is part of the larger US space exploration program as far as I know he had not corrected this possible misinterpretation, probably because it it is another way intentionally or not to troll the resistance.

I understand intentionally trolling the resistance

I don't understand not intentionally trolling the resistance , that's a new one on me , how does that work ?

SJWs have a real tendency to look for the absolute worst possible interpretation of words. The kind of interpretations that normal people would just rule out on the grounds that no one capable of stringing sentences together would be stupid enough to be saying. There's no limit to it.

That's possibility. But I usually tend to go with the simplest most likely interpretaion.

Now I'm not saying he doesn't say stupid things. But I think there's also quite a lot of reaching going on. That way the Washington Post can make a list of the 953874459926 stupid things Trump said.
