George Soros shouldn't be able to fund insurrections in other countries thru his NGOs.

But you're okay with a xenophobic educational system in any country? As I recall, that sort of thing has never ended well. As in people made dead for the sake of nationalism.

The issue going on in Hungary is beyond the Central European University, although now it seems to more fire and a bit of international attention. I was an exchange student at Hungarian Fine Arts University in 2015/2016 and they were facing a lot of transformations put in a very authoritarian reform, the government start pointing a person to direct the universities together with the rector – someone outside the academic community!! where is the university autonomy? – I could see how badly it impacted the university comparing my experience with some old exchange students, it was so frustrating for me.

There was some kind of rule that prohibited graduates to move to another country for some years, this could be controversial but understandable for some career if you lack professionals in that area, but for artists? It was just dumb.

Some well-estabilished courses on social sciences mostly where closed, mostly due to a creation of a new university, which align more to the government views.

With all due respect to Hungarians, concerned with Hungarian education, why are we not concerned with our own.

We absolutely should be. And of all the models we could emulate, the last should be something like the ethnocentric, nationalistic kind that Hungary's dictator wants.

I am not a Hungarian, but, in Hungary, should expect Hungarian values.

But are those values based on intolerance, fear, and hate of the other? The Nazis had claimed to represent German values, but rather than respecting that position, we and our allies had De-Nazified Germany, after fighting the bloodiest war in world history. Those so called Hungarian values are just the hatred felt by nationalist fanatics who are not unlike the Nazis.

Hungary has it's own, local traditions and high culture. Why should I subvert those.

Also, why don't you go to a school, which supports your values.

That high culture has little or nothing to do with the nationalistic claptrap their dictator wants to have taught.

Calling a democratically elected leader a dictator doesn't make it so, these Soro's backed NGOs are how he starts his little 'color revolutions'. Like what Soros believes or not, some billionaire shouldn't be able to play Risk IRL with real countries and real people.

Erdogan is a democratically elected leader, but he and his administration are rapidly leaving democracy behind. Same with Putin, who though elected, has since become the strongman of his country.
Seriously, Soros is the bogeyman for you guys on the right.

Just because you don't like the end result of other country's democracies doesn't means they're dictatorships.

Soros has his fingers in a lot of things, he's not a bogeyman like say the Koch brothers. Soros is the type of puppetmaster that the left always accuses of being on the right, they project everything it seems. Some billionaire should not be able to overthrow governments, period.

In the threads about schools and churches, you never express any interest, whatsoever, in finding likeminded people and proactively supporting those people, who agree with you. Most of us will never form our own, loyal communities of interest. It seems like a pattern of breaking things down and not building them up.

If any government, including democracies, ends up with the President-as-strongman, wielding close to absolute power, then that constitutes a dictatorship. Remember, Hitler gained absolute power through legitimate means in Germany.
And no, the Kochs are not bogeymen, as they have hundreds, if not thousands, of right wing politicians at their beck and call, using them to bust unions and workers rights, shred the social safety net, and give the super rich tax breaks with no strings attached (such as requiring that that money from the tax cuts be reinvested in their businesses). Or in other words, the Kochs seek to make the poor poorer, even making more poor, while all the while making the rich richer. Sounds like real life evil to me.
