It was a moment of triumph for protesting students. But it has been a disaster for the university. And they are not alone. The universities forgot that it's parents who sign the checks.

Universities have consistently underestimated the power of a furious public. While at the same time, overestimated the power of student activists, who have only as much influence as administrators give them. Can't the same be said of these two opposing fringe groups antifa and neonazi? The more the frenzy is stoked the more they are emboldened and the greater their ranks will become.

I live about 30 miles from MU and the enrollment has been in local news for some time - it indeed is an issue.
http://krcgtv.com/news/local/mizzou-ann ... -from-2016

Quote:
"May 5, 2017 The University of Missouri will see a decline in freshman enrollment for the third consecutive year.

According to numbers released by the university, the school anticipates 4,009 freshman students to enroll for Fall 2017. A report from Mizzou stated 4,772 first-time college students enrolled for 2016, a number of 6,191 in 2015 and 6,515 in 2014."

"Editor's Note: The original story reported total enrollment numbers. The university has clarified today's release as being first-time college students."

No kidding.

Yep. I posted about that on my Google Plus a few days back.
I saw yesterday where she finally apologized.
Gimme a minute to go find the post and I'll quote myself here.

Oh this is such an entertaining state to inhabit.
Political insanity - a coming pandemic bigger than bird flu?
http://www.kansascity.com/news/politics ... 55572.html

Quote:
"A Democratic Missouri state senator from University City posted, then quickly deleted, a comment on Facebook saying she hoped President Donald Trump would be assassinated.

As a result of Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal’s comment, the U.S. Secret Service’s St. Louis field office is investigating and both Sen. Claire McCaskill and the chairman of the Missouri Democratic Party have called on her to resign.

Chappelle-Nadal told The Star that she posted the comment out of frustration with the “trauma and despair” the president is causing with his statements about the events in Charlottesville, Va."

Is she a prime Jerry Springer guest or what,
Quote:
"In 2011, she was involved in a public feud with Jamilah Nasheed, then a state representative and now a state senator from St. Louis. Chappelle-Nadal called black lawmakers who supported local control of the St. Louis police department “house slaves,” and eventually got into a physical altercation with Nasheed during a Lil Wayne concert. "

It does seem the Democrat party got on her case faster, to a lot faster, than that other party does with their loose cannon nutcases.

Wouldn't they make great running mates.
"Vote Click Chappelle-Nadal!"

Considered going here since I'm majoring in journalism and live in the state, but decided not to. Looks like a good decision.

...You appear to be calling the violent Antifas as equal to their counterprotestors in the Charlottesville rally and elsewhere.
The neos are, to name only one of their positions, people who carry Nazi flags while chanting anti-Jewisg slogans, this is one of the main things that they stand for. That is one of the main things they are about.
The protestors against them have been some violent A-holes. They are not what the entire movement is about.

I'm looking at what was said and thinking that your conclusion there says more about your issues than what either of us has said - we are talking about MU and its situation - period -nothing else. Whatever you read in to it is your personal issue, not what we were talking about.

Even in that thing with the senator gal, I dare you to quote me where it even merely smells like I might have made a comparison.

...You appear to be suggesting " The streets are crawling with violent Antifas!". They're not.

...Orson Welles said that Martians were attacking New Jersey but he thought he was just making a radio play! :P. It's up to YOU to prove that there are Antifas uner the demiitasse (The closest approximation to " Reds under the bed " I can come up with at coming up to 6 A.M. after a Diet Coke-fueled night of posting .), me bucko! 8)

I am outraged by your transferring your personal issues in to what I said and condemning me for something I did not do. But on the upside I have a much better understanding of why you call yourself ASS-P, well chosen mate, well chosen. I hadn't seen that connection before just now.

One group categorizes people by race, the other by class. Not much difference there, both concepts are equally dangerous. While the media, whose only priority is selling advertising, is fanning the flames and counting the profit.

My point: If diversity were not a sham, we would welcome rather than condemn views that challenge our own.

...Hm, any backing up of the " Antifars running wild in the streets EVERYWHERE! " springboard still conspicuous by its abscence! Well done!

...My scan of the NYT lead article mentions that a perception by African=Americans that the university has too many black persons-unfriendly students and has not enough black students was a secondary, anyway, reason for the decline.
You didn't mention that. That's not exactly a " would be cited by Fox News "-type reason. (Yes, some black persons are conservatives - Often, perhaps, more personally/socially conservative but economically - and in their opinion of/relationship with the white power structure - more to the left. however, that's probably not what you mean when you say " conservative ", so...) Apparently some sort of (Perceived at?? Well, I'm just reported that it was perceived as such.) racism incident was a spark for the protests - which I agree, displayed some of the absurd PC-ness - , too.
