Ethical treatment my ass..
https://www.huffingtonpost.com/nathan-j-winograd/peta-kills-puppies-kittens_b_2979220.html

I realize this isn't super recent news, but saw something about PETA members protesting a dog show supposedly to make people more aware of cruel breeding practices and I've certainly heard bad things about the organization before, but someone posted the article I've posted above wasn't aware that was the severity I just figured maybe sometimes even with the best intentions they've done more harm than good for certain situations. But what that article contains is horrific, hate to say it but sounds like the truth is most animals are better off before having a run in with PETA even if they are being mistreated. So yeah of course they are on the news for their protest stunt when behind the scenes they just straight up kill animals they 'help'...they have an interesting definition of 'ethical treatment of animals' a life of abuse is wrong but poisoning them to death is 'humane'?

This made me mad, so I went to the PETA facebook page to ask them if it's true or not, doesn't seem like they want to respond, so they are probably guilty of some pretty bad ethics themselves....but I suppose we'll see if they respond, I'll be here all day so they can take their time. they deleted it, but I copied it so I can just copy and paste.

Perhaps PETA is killing those puppies and kittens because they are carnivores.

Think that humans are the most destructive animals on the planet? Read about what feral cats can do and be amazed.

Cats are the world's cutest godless killing machines.

That doesn't justify killing them by the 100s, looking a bit more into it...they did finally respond and I was wrong that it had been deleted, anyways they posted a link about their shelters so I will look at it. If that's not what they are doing then I suppose the article is wrong. But yeah it says they kill a lot of healthy and adoptable animals which I find unacceptable if its true.

Also that is why there are spay and neuter programs, where they fix the feral and stray cats so they won't continue to reproduce...its certainly a lot more human than killing animals. I mean if an abandoned or stray animal finally lets you get close enough to it to catch it...then killing it is probably the worst thing you could possibly do unless its suffering to death and can't be saved. I realize an overpopulation of cats is problematic and can effect small wildlife...but that is where the spay and neuter comes in, and also if need be they could be relocated. Also though I'd say Humans are still capable of more over-all destruction. That said if they are killing the animals it doesn't sound like that plays into it at all but even if it did I would still disagree with that approach.

"When police officers looked inside, they found the bodies of dead animals"

Disgusting to dump them in the trash bin.

Many nonprofits are created simply to make millions of dollars each year for the people running them. A lot of them have opposite agendas from what they advertise. Others keep the vast majority of donations instead of spending it on their stated cause. They don't care if they are hypocrites, they only care about getting rich.

People who actually love their pets usually give them a proper burial.

Yeah well the article does conflict some with the other link they posted in the response. Article says they kill tons of adoptable and healthy animals, their webpage says they find homes for most and euthanize sick, dying animals, those that are way too aggressive...but also included feral, which means they do still kill healthy animals but maybe not on as large scale as the article suggests I still oppose that. I suppose I will have to do a bit more research to get the truth...

Yeah It is just hard to believe they only kill animals as a last resort, if they found so many in the trash like that.

That is true, hence why I tend to be rather wary of them....there seem to be some good ones, but yeah I think a lot of people probably donate to and support these things without really looking into it to see if its really something they want to support or not. I don't have money to donate, but if I did I would certainly want to make sure it was to a cause I fully support.

I think ASPCA is a lot more legit than PETA.

It's been known for years that they kill the animals given to them.

Why would they give them to responsible pet owners? After all, they don't believe animals should be pets. They should be free to starve and be sickly as a result of being riddled with parasites.

PETA doesn't like it when we have pets and they definitely aren't going to contributing to what they see as a major injustice.

Well, that’s how you run a scam—by being a hypocrite. I dare you to run a scam while being honest!

Not a fan of PETA but isn't this just a case of humane killing given there probably isn't enough resources/space to shelter all these animals?

^A lot of shelters are transferring animals around to other shelters and taking in animals from other shelters when there is space. This beats the traditional "kill for space" practice. The HSUS shelter where I volunteer is a no-kill and we take in animals from other shelters when we have room for them.
