They were ignored by the Western media and historians as if their survival wasn't important enough to mention, and treated with discrimination when the survivors arrived in the USA.

Ah, the tryranny of normal, when the normative is defined by the majority as people like themselves and difference 1) doesn't count and 2) is wilfully ignored. I think many of us as AS people can relate to the same dynamics as those which suppressed the history of these survivors judged as not worthy enough to even acknowledge.

Sometimes, by ignoring survivors, you stop them from surviving anymore, thus making sure you were right after all.
