It was an interesting day in Helsinki.

Trump seems to be favoring Vladimir Putin over his own FBI----and his NATO allies.

What do you folks think?

My thoughts are very similar to this simple yet "speaks volumes" tweet on Twitter from
Fintan O'Toole

@fotoole

So Putin owns Trump and Trump owns the Republican Party. If there are any actual American conservatives left, they either have to take a stand now or knuckle under for good.

Charles Pierce at Esquire has been scathing about this. Someone else (name is escaping me at moment) has pointed out that all that is needed to stop this nonsense is for three Republican Senators to cross the aisle permanently and vote en bloc with the Dems. For all their Twittered outrage, that will happen after this does:

Image

They likes their grift too much to let a little thing like an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution get in the way:

Quote:
Members of Congress take the following oath of office:
“I, (name of Member), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this
obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.”

^^ They take it, all right, just not seriously.

Meanwhile, some redheaded Russian gal, over here on a student visa, massively involved in setting up links between Russia and Republicans through the NRA, was arrested today. Maria Buttinsky or some such.

I'd say the Trump-Putin axis is more like Boris and Fearless Leader.

(Natasha has removed her coat for the occasion; it's green and says "I really don't care do u?" on the back.)

Cicero had the measure of Trump, (and also foresaw that a demagogic tyrant would be the end of the great Republic):

“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.”

― Marcus Tullius Cicero

Where are Rocky and Bullwinkle when I need them? Or even Dudley Do-Right? :(

I guess they've gone into obscurity because their last movies were so bad.

I think Putin and Trump are more like Boris and Nastasha, and that Natasha is badly out of shape.

I’ll say the same thing when Radames was judged by the priests at his trial for loving the Ethiopian Aida: “Traditor!”

the bloodyminded who insist on sticking with him no matter what, remind me of Charlie Brown continually getting the ball kicked out from under him by lucy trump. or of that Gary Larson cartoon showing the dog in the passing car yelling at his buddy on the sidewalk, saying "my master's taking me to the vet's to get tutored!"

This was published last year, no-one but some democrats seemed to consider it noteworthy at the time:
https://www.politico.com/magazine/story ... ons-214868

The Steele dossier was also scoffed at, though Steele had been a very respected and experienced UK civil servant posted in Russia and his contacts were considered pre-eminent by the UK.

Both were laughed off by Trumpsters, of course, and the media should have focused on the whole Russian story more instead of following Trump's daily rants, lies and antics.

I hope that this time around they do focus on the treason trail and not Trump's lies, denials and distraction antics.

The GOP (IMO) obviously drafted the statement of denial Trump read today (note read - he reads stuff others write, he's too lazy to write his own stuff) and delivered Trump an ultimatum. However that is not where this should end.
By colluding with him for their own benefit, they are enabling him to continue to gaslight the USA and be a destructive menace to the world.

I hope this time the doubters can stay focused on the bigger picture and not rejoin the spectators at the Trump circus performance of the Orange Face clown.

Anyone who believes the pathetic "would/wouldn't" crap Trump was forced to read today really does have Trump Derangement Syndrome, so it does really exist.

Trump had more than half an hour in that Helsinki Press Conference to make himself clear. Such a smart man as he says he is - as we know, doesn't need as much as 40 seconds to amend a statement that comes out wrong.

But we know that, the GOP knows that, the World knows that; only the sadly deluded believers buy into the endless lies.

I don't quite understand what's going on. Today's news headlines aren't telling me much.

45 is a reference to the fact that Trump is the 45th President.

The cartoon that went viral from New Zealand this week:

Both very very funny yet so grim too.
