Bone Spur's "Space Force" to cost $13 billion in 5 years
Trump's Space Force could cost nearly $13 billion over 5 years
"We will create a single civilian position, reporting to the Secretary of Defense, to oversee the growth and expansion of this new branch of service. This position will be a new Assistant Secretary of Defense for Space. And this leader will be key to the critical transition to a fully independent Secretary of the Space Force in the years ahead," Pence said.

What? are you one of those stone agers who think it's a "waste" to be fooling around up in space?
MOST of what we regularly use and enjoy about this new century is THANKS to a space program.
Now, there is good reason the Pentagon needs to have more attention up there. It's not just the USA in orbit.
This plan has been on the books since Sputnik. Trump just bumped it forward a little. It's not some silly fantasy that he alone came up with.
Or would you rather have Russia or China take down half our satellites?

There’s actually a government program known as... wait for it, wait for it... NASA.
So, yeah, funding some whacky military “space force” is an unbelievably stupid idea especially since space exploration NASA is underfunded.
Here’s an idea - spend money supporting.... NASA. Not some whacky military program that an orange ogre wants to recreate Moonraker.
It’s kinda - common sense. I align with astronaut Mark Kelly.
Kelly reiterated that point yesterday.
"There is a threat out there but it's being handled by the US Air Force today," he said during an MSNBC interview, according to Reuters. "[It] doesn't make sense to build a whole other level of bureaucracy in an incredibly bureaucratic DoD."

Moonraker? Try the Church of Scientology.

NASA is a public civilian agency on it's way to becoming the "space DMV", their purpose is scientific., the Pentagon wants it's own deal. Let 'em have it.
Yes, in a warm-fuzzy world of international treaties, it's nice to think of space as non militarized, but the reality is that it is, China & Russia are making their own progress, and we need to defend ourselves and our interests up there. NASA is not organized or equipped for military missions.
And this is not just some "wacky" idea "the orange" came up with. Trump is just trying to take credit, that's all. It's been the goal of the pentagon since the Eisenhower era to get units up there.
The corporate world can take care of the exploration and science now, NASA is too inefficient anyway. They should just be the "space DMV", that's all they are good for now.
PS: and the air force? They are for atmospheric missions. As our presence in space increases and technology advances there will be a need for different operations. So there is redundancy, the air force does do orbital missions, the navy also flys airplanes. Right now, it may not seem necessary, but give it 50-100 years. It needs time to grow into it's role. People likely scoffed when they split the Air Force off the Army as well. And speaking of Army? Why do we also have Marines?

Moonraker? Try the Church of Scientology.
Scientologists think they are aliens, they don’t want to do battles in outer space. They’re probably more afraid that “space force” will invade and destroy their home planet.

So basically you just want to call the -
Air Force Space Command
Something different. What you’re looking for - already exists.
As astronaut Mike Kelly already said it’s an unbelievably stupid idea. As Mike said, what’s next - “Under The Sea Force”?
Money should be put towards space exploration not raging wars in space to recreate Moonraker when we can’t even go past the moon yet. Or do you honestly believe the Earth is going to be habitable and filled with resources forever?

Meh, why am I even arguing, people just stick to their position and never yield, stay in your world dude, I'm tired of these stupid internet debates, nobody convinces anybody of anything, this is all a waste of time, stay ignorant of technology advances. Doesn't matter, this is the internet, we are all right and there is not changing that ---- you dude.
Whatever man, stay ignorant believing the Earth and its resources are going to be around forever. Science shows it won’t and that this is why space exploration is crucial. But sure, firing guns in space to play Moonraker is more important.
Expanding on military force WHILE expanding on space exploration would be one thing. Expanding on military force while shoving space exploration to the side is unbelievably dumb and it reeks of the right pulling in their gun crazed supporters rather than focusing on broadening the country’s reach beyond the Earth.
