WATCH: Ted Cruz says Dallas cop who killed unarmed black man in his own home should not be fired
Quote:
During a debate Friday evening, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) attempted to attack his challenger Beto O’Rourke by claiming he wants to see the Dallas officer who shot and killed an unarmed black man in his own apartment lose her job.
“Why did you caution Representative O’Rourke and others not to jump to conclusions in this case when the Texas Rangers and the Dallas District Attorney said she committed manslaughter?” a moderator asked Cruz about Dallas officer Amber Geiger’s shooting of Botham Jean in his apartment, which she thought was hers.
“If she violated the law, if she did that intentionally, she’ll face the consequences,” the senator said. “But without knowing the facts, before a trial, before a jury has heard the evidence, Congressman O’Rourke is ready to convict her, ready to fire her.”
“It’s a troubling pattern,” Cruz continued. “Over and over again, Congressman O’Rourke, when faced with an issue about police and law enforcement, he sides against the police.”

Cruz seems wise here.
They suspended officer Betty Shelby without pay, and had to reinstate her after the facts came out.
She was likewise accused of unlawfully killing a black man.
Officer Betty Shelby to get nearly $36,000 in back pay as she moves to administrative duty

Why not wait for facts?

From the article you posted:
Quote:
the jury that acquitted Shelby reportedly was concerned about her judgment as an officer.
In a letter filed with the district court and released Friday, the jury’s foreman noted that jurors encourage the police chief and other administrators to “take a detailed and earnest review of all points” of Shelby’s encounter with Crutcher.
“If she had any opportunity or flexibility of judgment to subdue the suspect with a less lethal force in the moments before the event culminated tragically, then her ability and judgment as an officer under pressure has to be called into question, and serious consideration given to whether she be allowed to return to practicing law enforcement,” the jury foreman wrote.

Amber Guyger entered Botham Jean's apartment and shot him dead.
In the criminal case, she's entitled to a presumption of innocence that has to be overcome by proof of guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
But getting fired is a civil matter and she can be removed from her job by a simple preponderance of the evidence.
And in the case of Amber Guyger, there's plenty of preponderance.
