That country is the bane of my existence, even more than North Korea.
It’s like King Salman wakes up every morning and creates new laws just so he can have another excuse to execute people.
Fornication should not be illegal.
This is even worse than that. Everyone knows people are tried and executed under unjust laws in KSA. This is an extrajudicial murder carried out on foreign soil. Can you imagine if they pulled this on US soil?
With Mike Pence waiting in the wings, and these Roy Moore-types wanting theocracy, I can picture it happening.
I can't stand either of them, but you can't compare them to Salafist nutcases - not even for hyperbole. The biggest problem in the US is greed and corruption, not theocracy. Parts of the deep south are kind of scary, but their influence is shrinking with each generation.
I know he’s been gone for a while, but one guy who made me cringe after reading about him was Jesse Helms.
There was an incident where he, Orrin Hatch, Carol Moseley-Braun were in an elevator and Helms told Hatch “watch me make her cry”. He started singing Dixie (Moseley-Braun is black)
One of my least favorite things about him was that he wanted to abolish the National Endowment for the Arts for no other reason than their decision to fund the works of Robert Mapplethorpe.
He continued to be a far-right blowhard even after George Wallace and Strom Thurmond had stopped.
I hope we never elect any more Jesse Helmseses ever again.
