Sophie Weaver, who spent her life fighting a rare disease as well as online bullies who attacked her appearance, passed away on Friday. Her mother confirmed the sad news in an Instagram post.

“‪Our #SweetSophia left this earth last night as she spent every day of her life, surrounded by love & adoration,” Natalie Weaver wrote in the caption.

“Once we pull ourselves from this heart shattering pain we will continue to help others in her memory.”

Sophia, from the US, was diagnosed with Rett syndrome at age one, and was born with facial deformities and deformities to her hands and feet. The condition saw Sophia undergo 22 surgeries in her short life.

Rett syndrome is a neurological disorder that impairs brain development, meaning young children never develop language and motor functions. As Sophia was unable to talk, she used her eyes and made little sounds to communicate with her family.

Mum Natalie spent much of Sophia’s life fighting for her daughter’s rights as she was viciously bullied for her looks on Twitter. One social media user even used a picture of Sophia for a pro-abortion campaign.

Natalie took the matter to Twitter, pushing for the social media outlet to add people with disabilities as a category in the platform’s violation reporting.

So folks want to start a neurodiversity movement please broaden your horizons as nobody seems to be helping our most vulnerable brothers and sisters

I'm sorry to have to share this story but I feel for the little girl and her family.

I for one think neurodiversity means we have to more vigilant in protecting our most vulnerable and not let them be open targets for the vile loathsome creatures that dwell behind keyboards all over the world.
