The problem is soliciting a foreign government for intelligence to influence an election. That's illegal and what the entire Mueller investigation was about. The Mueller investigation found nothing to show that Trump had done that in the 2016 election, but if he did so here it is a very big problem. Broadly using the powers of the presidency to tamper in elections is why Nixon resigned (and would have been impeached and convicted if he hadn't).
