Australia’s Home Affairs Secretary Mike Pezzullo warned the “drums of war” were beating louder, which spread across the planet and featured on the front page of The Times in Britain.

Secretary Mike Pezzullo wrote a message to the Home Affairs Department for Anzac Day in which he warned the global “drums of war” are beating and Australia should prepare itself for a possible conflict.

The story was picked up by the The Times after the comments made waves in the Australian political and media environment.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison skipped over the issue when he was asked by Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell whether he agreed with the secretary.

“Our objective is to pursue peace,” Mr Morrison said.

“All of the agency that we have as a country and as a government is designed to achieve that”.

Meanwhile former Labor foreign minister Bob Carr weighed in on the issue slamming Mr Pezzullo for “itching for a showdown in the Taiwan Strait”.

A Chinese General has dismissed Australia’s attempts to bolster its military preparedness with a major escalation in defence spending saying Australia is neither strong nor powerful.

“We don’t need to take it seriously,” General Jin Yinan said in an interview in China.

General Jin said if Australia insists on intervening “it would only cause greater damage” to the country itself.

He also sensationally declared “white supremacy” was a key motivator for Canberra’s military-related decisions.

However, Home Affair Minister Karen Andrews hit back at his comments during an interview with Sky News and defended Australia’s military capabilities.

She said spending on the ADF over the next 10 years would total $270 billion and “appropriate action” was being taken.

Global Times declares Morrison government is ‘to blame for current icy China-Australia relationship’

China’s mouthpiece the Global Times has written a scathing piece on Australia’s relations with China, stating the Morrison government is to blame for the current “icy China-Australia relationship”.

The article also detailed how Australia has caused a more fractured relationship with the Communist County because of its loyalty to the United States.

"These Australian politicians are to blame for the current icy China-Australia relationship. For them, Washington, rather than Canberra, dictates Australia's foreign policy," the statement said.

"As the long-held hysterical opinion in Australia has poisoned the atmosphere toward China, catering to such a twisted atmosphere and intimacy with the US can turn into political incentives of these politicians".

The article finished by sending a stern warning to Australia to not make an enemy with China.

"Australia's China policy has reached a cul-de-sac. China does not seek enmity with Australia, and Australia should avoid proactively turning itself into an enemy of China," the statement read.

"If Australia resorts to provocative actions in China's offshore areas, it is bound to face severe countermeasures from China."
