South Dakota attorney General struck and killed a man saturday night,a death only discovered later by police. He initially reported hitting a deer.

Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg had told Hyde county sheriff's dept. that he hit a deer on the highway at about 10:30 CT on saturday night.

According to the release from the SD dept. of public safety; The body of 55 year old Joseph Boever a pedestrian was discovered sunday morning. The SDDPS did not say if Ravnsborg stopped his vehicle after the hit(it's unlikely SD authorities would have such knowledge because Ravnsborg is likely the only witness).

South Dakota Governor Kristi Neom said the South Dakota highway patrol will investigate this issue in a thorough manor.Which will be overseen by SDDPS rep. Craig Price.

Ravnsborg's Chief of Staff called the incident a tragic accident in a statement released on monday.

Ravnsborg a republican was elected attorney general in 2018.

He might have thought he hit a deer.

Or he’s an abject liar.

I don’t know at this point.

Deer or man. It’s tragic. A life snuffed out before its time.

I would have to deduce that if he didn't stop he would have said "I hit something but am not sure what" If he did stop he would have known what he hit, unless it was a deer which could run away but a person couldn't.If he stopped he would know whether it was a person,I once hit a deer and it ran away but I doubt a person would unless it was to a hospital. But this victim was found dead,so I doubt he stopped then.

From that I deduce he lied

New info from the Boston Globe says that Ravnsborg went back to the scene the next day and found the victim dead.

I guess he may not have lied or hit and run based on new info not available in the CNN article that was posted last night.

This could have been a legit accident.

We'll see what the investigation yields.

I hope it's not a biased investigation in favor of the attorney general.

Maybe he was intoxicated.

Maybe speculation does nothing to help or hinder the case.

Let's wait and see what the investigation and court proceedings reveal.

His story is suspicious he said on saturday night to police that he hit a deer, then according to the Boston Globe article he went back sunday and found the body.He said he used a flashlight saturday night,so with a quality flashlight an high level politician could afford he couldn't see the body saturday night. He should have been able to see the body with a good flashlight.

The Boston Globe article makes him look better than the CNN but when you really think about it both stories are fishy.

None of it makes sense,I think the police will find him to have not been truthful.

He could have been intoxicated saturday night but it will never be proven because there were no witnesses and by sunday morning his system would be clear of any alcohol that is traceable.

There is new possible evidence that there were skid marks in the breakdown lane of the highway found when there was day light.Skid marks of coarse mean that brakes were applied in a hard manor, meaning the driver saw something before the crash.Meaning he likely saw a person, when deer comes of the woods in front of you,you rarely have time to react.

This is tentative not validated by law enforcement at this point.
