First man cured of HIV has died
Timothy Ray Brown, who made history as the"Berlin patient",the first person to be cured of HIV,has died at age 54.
Brown died tuesday at his home in Palm Springs,CA,the cause was return of cancer that originally prompted a bone marrow transplant and stem cell transplants.Which Brown received in 2008 and seemed to have eliminated his leukemia and HIV.
Timothy symbolized that it is possible under special circumstances to rid a patient of HIV,something most scientists thought could not be done.Said Dr. Gero Huetter, the Berlin physician who led Brown's historic treatment.
The International AIDS society ,which had Brown speak at many AIDS conferances after his successful treatment, said they are mourning his death and said he and Huetter are owed a great deal for the research of finding a cure.
Brown's first transplant in 2007 eliminated his HIV but not the leukemia,he had a second transplant in 2008 and that seemed to work.
His cancer returned last year
