ASIO warns of foreign spies trawling social media

Foreign intelligence agencies are using LinkedIn and other social media sites to target, groom and recruit Australians with access to cutting-edge technology and sensitive information, the domestic spy agency said in a rare public statement on Monday.

The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) said it was seeing a "disturbing number of cases" where academics or those with a government security clearances were targeted, often by someone posing as recruiter.
