‘Plot thickens’ for Vatican money wiring scandal

The Australian’s Political Editor Dennis Shanahan says the details emerging from the Vatican’s “wide-ranging scandal” indicate there is much more than $2 million which has been transferred to Australia.
The Australian newspaper reported the money, allegedly linked to Cardinal George Pell’s trial, had been wired from the Vatican to Australia between February 2017 and June 2018 in four separate transactions.
Transfer details include references to Cardinal Giovanni Angelo Becciu who has denied interfering in Cardinal Pell’s trial.
Discussing what exactly the money was transferred for, Mr Shanahan told Sky News host Andrew Bolt “there is no proof” from the details they have about “where the money went once it arrived in Australia”.
“I think that if it was used in relation to Cardinal Pell’s trial, that’s actually a small part of a much larger picture,” he said.
Mr Bolt commented, “the plot thickens … there will be an accounting, there are so many people who fed this witch-hunt”.

I had seen that reported a few days ago...
On the assumption that the money was sent in order to facilitate the prosecution of Cardinal Pell, and given that the "victims" have denied receiving any money, I wonder if the funds may have gone to the lawyers (or members of the media) in order to "assist"\"motivate" them with their work.

I believe I heard that even the Victorian police force is going to be investigated.
Well, the person thought to have been behind the transfer of funds is making news again...

ROME (AP) — The Vatican cardinal sacked by Pope Francis amid a corruption investigation is suing an Italian news magazine, claiming that his ruined reputation has eliminated his chances of becoming pope and will undermine the legitimacy of any future papal election.
Cardinal Angelo Becciu is seeking 10 million euros ($11.9 million) in damages, to be given to charity, in a lawsuit filed Wednesday in the Sassari, Sardinia tribunal against L’Espresso magazine, the weekly affiliated with Italian daily newspaper La Repubblica.
