China to become 'increasingly isolated' around the world
15/12/2020|2min

The leadership of Xi Jinping and the Chinese government are going to come under increasing pressure in 2021, says Nationals Senator Matt Canavan.

"You already hear noises within China of concerns about some of the strategy that they are adopting," Mr Canavan told Sky News host Paul Murray.

"We unfortunately think we're alone on this issue, we are not".

He said 2020 has been a "terrible" year for the Chinese Communist Party.

"They are pariahs in the world because of coronavirus.

"Their true style is being revealed through the way they're bulling and threatening our own country.

"And I think they're going to become increasingly isolated among the world and that will come at a great cost to the Chinese economy".

I dont know why he mentioned the virus as being the factor. Forced amoral attitudes with what they are doing to the Uighurs comes to mind first.

Last time I checked China stands - as the only major economy - to end 2020 with a positive growth rate of 2.3 percent - and its economy is expected to grow by 8 percent in 2021.

The US economy is expected to contract by 2.4 percent and grow by 4.2 percent in 2020.

And the Eurozone is expected to contract by 8.3 percent in 2020 and grow by 5.2 percent in 2021.

China
US
Eurozone

And the massive spike in coronavirus infections and deaths in the US and Europe right now (because people insist on travelling across country and having large gatherings during an out-of-control pandemic ) will likely have a further negative impact on US and European growth.

So, in 2021, China will not only be larger and more dominant at the global stage in absolute terms - it will be relatively even larger due to higher economic growth rates compared to the US and Europe.

... and some third tier politician from Australia isn't going to change that.

Let's find out what the Chinese say about the concept of China becoming isolated;

‘China isolation’ is a seriously wrong impression

I often see people complain on the internet. How come the whole world is China's enemy? Why is China so isolated? Those people think the world is mostly blaming us on issues such as Xinjiang, Tibet, Hong Kong. In their view, on the South China Sea conflict and the China-India border tensions, the international public opinion is mostly on the other side. China is lonelier than ever.

I want to say that this is a serious misperception. The biggest change in China's diplomacy in the past two or three years has been the fundamental change in the US policy towards China, which has led to a change in the attitude towards China of a few of the US's most ardent allies, mainly the Five Eyes alliance countries. In addition, the intensification of border disputes between China and India has led to a hardening of India's attitude towards China. Apart from that, there are no other major changes in China's diplomatic landscape, and the notion of "China's isolation" is simply untenable.

In addition, please note that China-Japan relations have been eased and China's relations with major European countries are also being strengthened. China-Africa relations, China's relations with many countries in Asia and Latin America are also getting better and better, and China-North Korea relations have been significantly improved, not to mention the continuous consolidation of China-Russia relations at a high level.

So, is China actually becoming increasingly isolated or is there a propaganda contest going on?
:?:
China doesn't seem to be isolated when looking at the railway trade journal websites, for instance,

As much as people turn their back on the PRC it'll still be cold comfort for Taiwan. They get less recognition every year it seems...
