Top military officials preparing rare message to US forces in the wake of the Capitol attack

Gen. Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff are preparing to send a message to the entire military force reiterating a tone of reassurance given recent violence in Washington, according to two defense officials.

The message will remind the force that their obligation is to support and defend the Constitution and reject extremism, the sources said.  The decision to issue the message was agreed upon by the chiefs on Tuesday, one of the officials said.

It is considered a significant step because the chiefs have sought to stay out of anything that may have political overtones.  But given what has happened, they all felt it was important to make a statement given the gravity of events surrounding the inauguration.

Are you thinking the national guard won't be enough and the Marines, army, etc will be used here?

Quite the opposite.

I believe that the Joint Chiefs will continue to prevent the U.S. military from being used by Donald Trump to stage a coup against the U.S. government.

I do not believe that even Donald Trump is stupid enough to make the same mistakes that he did leading up to and during his abortive coup attempt on January 6, 2021.

But ... I have been mistaken before ...

I certainly hope Trump doesn't make a spectacle of himself and his country.

Too late.  Where have you been for the last 4 years?

I must have misread. I was thinking the question was if the military would be used against Trump supporters. You are saying will not be used to assist them.

My question was will the military be needed to stop the supporters? You were thinking will the military help the supporters.

Wrong again; I know they will not (except for maybe a few AWOL dirtbags acting on their own).  Being a veteran myself, I know how deeply deployed troops need reassurances that their loved ones will be safe at home.

The military brass has been very much against Trump since he assumed the Presidency (and, yes, before then, too)

And for good reason-----he's a friggin' loose cannon!

He kept the USA out of any new Wars , I believe.

Wondering if the joint chiefs of staff intended to create a pre-alert , to activate the the Military Complex .
Or if they are just being reassuring to the Military .

I am still waiting to read the article about why a nuclear weapon is not designed to play Russian roulette with.

Trump, frankly, is a delusional man.

His supporters got caught up in his delusions----and decided to raid the Capitol.

Even if you disagree with someone politically, you don't ransack his/her house!! !!

And this "house" belonged to both his opponents and his supporters.

ONE COULD BE A CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN WITHOUT LIKING TRUMP!

If Trump were a Democratic Liberal Progressive type, I would be saying the same things about Trump.

He also abandoned our allies on the battlefield which resulting in images of American forces being pelted with potatoes during their retreat. He has damaged our military's relationship with our NATO partners. He has insulted our intelligence services and taken the word of our enemy over theirs. He assassinated a military general against the rules of war, placing our troops at greater risk. He has pardoned war criminals against the advice of the military. And the list could go on, but lets say the military, who he has personally insulted and berated, probably don't hold him in high regard and think of him as dangerous. You could Google what Gen. Mattis has said about him:

Quote:
“Donald Trump is the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people—does not even pretend to try. Instead, he tries to divide us,” Mattis writes. “We are witnessing the consequences of three years of this deliberate effort. We are witnessing the consequences of three years without mature leadership. We can unite without him, drawing on the strengths inherent in our civil society. This will not be easy, as the past few days have shown, but we owe it to our fellow citizens; to past generations that bled to defend our promise; and to our children.”

Not a lot of love there. (Ironically, he was the only one in the administration called "Mad Dog.")

Yes, he has started no new wars (yet), neither has he ended any.
