I honestly don't think they're exactly happy with it. They fanned the flames of conspiracy theories and nationalism to get themselves elected, but now the fire is raging beyond their ability to control.
Conspiracy theorist Republicans hold seats in congress. A spray-tanned, juvenile conman is the Republican base's new darling. Offending people for its own sake is more important than policy. Facts are optional.
It seems like the GOP establishment and moderate Republicans will have to wait for this loony fire to burn itself out. At this rate it looks like they'll have to wait a while. Who knows what the party will look like in the years to come. The crazy isn't going to go away overnight...
