Thirty some years ago that would have been correct.
Afghanistan had a five hundred mile long border with the old Soviet Union.
But the USSR fell apart in 1991 with the fall of Communism. Its successor state is the modern Russian Republic. But the modern Russian Republic does not border Afghanistan, and doesnt even come within 500 miles of Afghanistan.
Afghanistan borders the former Soviet Republics (now independent countries) of Turkoman, Tadjikistan, and Uzbekistan. They in turn border the larger now also independent former SSR of Kazahkistan, which does have a long border with the Russian Republic.
