Peter Dutton warns 'war would be devastating' as he reveals fears of military conflict in China Rising documentary

Defence Minister Peter Dutton has warned war between China and Australia would be “devastating” as he described the communist superpower as an existential threat to the region.

Speaking exclusively to Sky News Australia for the upcoming China Rising documentary, Mr Dutton said Australia had a responsibility to bolster its military strength to support weaker nations in the Pacific.

“War would be devastating, there's no question about that,” Mr Dutton said.

“Even a conventional war, let alone a nuclear war would be devastating.

“That's why all of us need to take every action we can to prevent that from happening.

“You don't gain the ability to deter from a position of weakness and Australia needs to be in the strongest possible position.
