VERO BEACH – A Gifford man who claimed he was defending himself and his girlfriend when he fired shots at deputies during an early-morning raid in 2017 was acquitted Friday of charges that carried a life prison term.
A jury found Andrew “A.J.” Coffee IV, 27, not guilty of second-degree felony murder, three counts of attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer by discharging a firearm and one count of shooting or throwing a deadly missile.
In a separate proceeding Friday, the same jury convicted Coffee IV of one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.

“The jury found that he was defending himself and Alteria and that he needed to do this,” Chrzan added.

Damn, it's like you read my mind, this is such a timely story of a black man prevailing with a self defense argument against the police even though the firearm he used was illegal for him to possess, with a vengeful prosecutor trying to give him 30 years on the gun possession out of sheer spite for losing the case.

And took the jury such a short time to come to a verdict, too.

He looks remarkably sorry and remorseful for the harm he caused to the family of his girlfriend who have to mourn her death, which came as a result of his actions (both those which had caused the police to have to execute the search warrant, as well as his firing at the police when they did so), doesn't he...
