FEMA, in coordination with the FCC, will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alert system on Oct. 4, 2023, by sending messages to every cell phone, TV and radio in the United States.

Every television, radio and cellphone in the United States is going to broadcast a message on Oct. 4 along the lines of: "THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System.  No action is needed."

The test alert will be sent out around 2:20 p.m. Eastern time (UTC-4).  The test will be conducted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, working in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission.

The test is intended to make sure that the alert system is ready to warn the public in the event of emergencies, particularly those that have a national impact.

There will be no zombies.

I've never received an alert on my mobile for anything, not even Amber Alerts.
I'm not in USA but I think it's strange that my friends and family get them, but I don't.
I guess maybe it means I'm a zombie.

I had to sign up with my mobile to receive Amber Alerts back in Cali.

Don't know why the Philippines does not have something similar.

Poland does have a system that sends alerts to mobile phones, everyone is in the system by default. It's called alert RCB (Rządowe Centrum Bezpieczeństwa - Government Center of Security) and it usually sends information about things like extreme weather, rabies vaccines for wild foxes or unusual military activities, what to expect and what to do or not do about it.

It's been here since 2018. Quite useful, though I noted exactly one instance of abuse of the system - sending information about election adaptations for elderly people through it. It sparked popular disapproval and it was not repeated so far.

I never got the Trump alert on my phone .I do get severe weather alerts for things like tornados.An awful siren goes off.

CLAIM: An emergency broadcast system test on Oct. 4 will send a signal to cell phones nationwide in order to activate nanoparticles such as graphene oxide that have been introduced into people’s bodies.

ASSESSMENT: False. Next month’s test of the nationwide Emergency Alert System uses the same familiar audio tone that’s been in use since the 1960s to broadcast warnings across the country.  A spokesperson for the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which is overseeing the test, also said there are no known adverse health effects from the signal. The claims revive long-debunked conspiracy theories about the contents of the COVID-19 vaccine.

THE FACTS: Social media users are raising dire warnings about upcoming tests of the national emergency warning system.

Many are imploring their followers to shut off their cellphones on the day of the test because they believe it’s part of a broader conspiracy to exert control over the population.

One popular video shows a woman claiming the test will somehow switch on technology that has been introduced into people’s bodies.

In another widely shared video, a man issues a similar warning, adding that graphene oxide and other nanoparticles have been inserted into billions of human beings around the world “through obvious mediums.”

But while FEMA is conducting a routine test of its emergency warning system next month, there is no truth to the claim that it will emit a wireless signal that will somehow activate graphene oxide or nanoparticles in the body.

I can't think of a single need for a nation-wide alert. Regional sure, things like earthquakes, tsunamis, fires, etc But there is nothing except a nuclear strike that would impact the entire nation at the same time. Even then, what will they suggest we do? "Duck and cover"? Yeah, sure.
