Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin was on the passenger list of a plane which crashed in Russia, killing all 10 on board.

He was believed to be on board the plane.

Earlier, a Wagner-linked Telegram channel Grey Zone reported that the jet was shot down by air defences in Tver region, north of Moscow.

Prigozhin led a failed mutiny against the Russian armed forces in June.

I kinda figured that guy wouldn't be around long.. putin wasn't just going to let it slide that he rebelled against him. Completely unsurprising. The only surprise is that it took this long And tbh I was kind of expecting him to fall out a window - But - I guess it makes sense since apparently he was cautious enough to stay in windowless hotels. Probably figured they wouldn't take down a plane full of people just to get him.. and figured wrong.

There's already speculation that Prigozhin may have been on another plane to avoid the inevitable assassination. I'm looking for a source of this.

I hated that guy. He was more evil than Putin.

He was a bad man who had crossed another bad man. I imagine he'll be spending his time in Hell waiting for Putin to arrive.

Evil or not, it's bad news for the West, that means Putin has more grip on power by taking down any possible future munity.

The message to Kremlin "elites" about effects of insubordination has been sent.

Yes, it's exactly what we all knew isn't it. The minute Prigozhin started the rebellion, he signed his own death warrant.

Yep. His only possible hope of survival would have been if he'd massacred everyone in the Russian parliament and Wagner had taken over Russia.

The bright side: with the spectacular assassination of Prigozhin and silent disappearance of Surovikin, things fall back to the hands of Shoigu and Gerasimov - and these two are not exactly competent.

That sounds good.

I'm not even sure Prigozhin is dead, it all sounds so staged to me, why would he and his deputy even get on that plane and why weren't they in Africa?

Who knows. It's all very Game of Thrones, as someone said above.

We have only Russian word for it but here it doesn't matter. If Prigozhin somehow survived, he won't be able to stick his nose out of his hiding, so he's as good as dead.

What's left of Wagner Group is being taken under strict control of Kremlin. They won't become any less attrocitous but they're be far less likely to try any new mutiny.
