Once Frederik becomes king, all currently serving monarchs in the world will be male.

That’s a bummer.

She must’ve done a good job. I think Denmark ranks second on the World Happiness Report.

The monarchs of Denmark have as much power as those of the modern UK. Basically none at all. So they dont get much credit, or much blame, for anything.

I didn’t mean to claim that she’s entirely responsible for the “state of Denmark” or that she has a lot of power. Even leaders with little power overall can work a fair amount of good or evil though, generally speaking.

The leader with the power in DK is Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.

I give her credit though. She probably witnessed Queen Elizabeth live almost forever forcing Queen Elizabeth's son off of the throne until that son's own old age in this past year of 2023. And she decided not to repeat that mistake, and let her still only middle aged son to take over the corporation by herself stepping aside.

I was hoping this was going to be a monarchy becomes a republic feel-good-story. :(

It hasn't even been 5 years since that happened in Barbados.

They're useful for tabloid stories.

What about Queen Rania of Jordan?

For the same reason, that the Danish and UK monarchs are just figureheads in what are already defacto republics, that wouldnt mean much.

If an old style absolute monarch, like Saudi Prince Whathisface were to step aside, and declare "from now on the people of SA will democratically elect our heads of state in free and fair elections" then THAT would be a "feel good story". :D
