Are they leaving Austin for another Texas city/town, or are they leaving Austin for a different state?
I could be said to be part of an "exodus" from a blueish city metro in Oklahoma (understand, no city is actually blue in Oklahoma, but you know) but I'm not moving to some super conservative area of Oklahoma, I'm moving out of the state entirely for a blue state that protects my rights and freedoms.
The top "move in" state was South Carolina. I don't think politics played much of a role in move in or move out, I think it had more to do with cost of living and economic opportunities. Many of the "move out" cities were in California.
South Carolina has very beautiful beaches, but it's still very conservative. Plus Charleston in particular is more vulnerable to climate change and rising seas than anywhere else in the country.
North Carolina is more middle of the road politically. Raleigh and Charlotte both rank very highly in opinion polls.
