Does anyone remember when Meta got rid of facial recognition technology on platforms such as Facebook, way back in 2021? Before the feature was 'retired', it powered the automatic tagging tool on there.

Well, now it is returning under a different guise, to help combat scams and to aid in account recovery.

Do people really want this though?

I know if I still had an account there, I would be seriously considering deleting that account if this feature were to roll out globally.

The track record of Meta with regards to handling personal data is abysmal, in my opinion, and it is an opinion that is widely held, I do believe.

I didn't know they had retired it. I guess out of all the things that are out there to worry about this is not near the top of my list. It's creepy though, for sure.
