Georgia and the south in general seem like a horrible place. First Genarlow Wilson now this. Yea, no agenda there. You can only hope the "good ole boys" will die out eventually.

"The proposed ordinance would also bar women from showing the strap of a thong beneath their pants. They would also be prohibited from wearing jogging bras in public or show a bra strap, said Debbie Seagraves, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Georgia."

I don't know about Atlanta, but if they enacted that law in Montreal every woman (including me) would be sure to have at least one bra strap flagrantly exposed, devil take the hindmost. And we'd stencil "Thong Alert" on our jeans. In neon.

I don't like sagging pants or exposed bra straps. But to ban them? Welcome to the United States of Iraq.

Are there any other countries beside America were people publically wear sagging baggy pants (e.g. Britain, Canada)?

Actually, according to this article CT Martin isn't exactly a 'Good ole Boy' as you put it, he's Black.

The South is an odd mix of Genteel, proper society, and religion juxtaposed with a complete and blatant disregard of it. --As usual, many laws in The South are subject to selective enforcement, those who are rich are usually not subject to picayune laws like this, whilst those who are poor are almost always subject to having them enforced against them.

The only reason these dickheads in power are allowed to get away with this sh*t is because the sheep that they are in charge of (the general population) let them. Council ordinances are generally bullsh*t, and any good lawyer can find a way around them. Unfortunately, when certain dickheads get power, they think they are God incarnate, and it takes someone with the balls and determination to beat them.

Just shows how many w*kers there are over there to begin with...

Canada, Europe, africa, asia, etc. People wear baggy pants for different reasons, but if you don't think there is a cross over of ideas/cultures you are mistaken. That doesn't go say we all do it.

At first I thought this was one of those criminalisation things, where they ban x item of clothing because y group of criminals favours them. (Akin to banning hooded tops in shopping centres here.) Thus my first thought was "Yeah, cause no-one ever committed crime wearing a sharp suit..." Then I looked closer and realised this legislation is because it looks a bit scruffy.

Its an easy-target moneyspinner to lower crime figures. Criminalise big trousers, and suddenly the arrest rates go up, and the fines start rolling in. They could at least try to justify it by claiming it makes it easier to hide a firearm or something.

Admittedly, I do think the habit of wearing pants around your f*cking knees is utterly ret*d, and looks like you cant dress yourself without your mothers help, but thats just a personal taste matter. No reason to criminalise it.

Next years headline - Atlanta, Americas Best Dressed City. Sharp suits and tight haircuts for all!!....

Welcome to 1947, and the number 1 song on the hit parade is 'The Good Ol' Boys are Back In Town'.

Besides, I know it was a black-fella that proposed this law; bet it irked the good ol' boys in the KKK that he was able to get so much power.

Considering the history of the region.

Honestly, I've lived for an equal amount of time in Georgia and Ohio (eight years in each), and I have to say that I've seen a lot more racism in the North.

Agreed. I've never been to the south, but from my experience the amount of racism in Ohio is god-awful ridiculous. There was tons of fighting and stuff over race last year at school and the cops had to be called in to monitor things. They were afraid a riot was going to start.

Even though i don't personally like some of the clothing choices made by the people around me, it is a choice to be made by people--- not the government. i know some of my clothes aren't for some people, either. But I would feel violated as a USA citizen if I were told my clothes were banned. What will they tell us next--- that we have to only eat certain foods or hang the toilet paper a certain way on the dispenser?
There is another news story on the wire about Iran closing down some barber shops for offering un-Islamic/Iranian style haircuts. Is this the direction we want to go in?

Actually I've seen dispensers that have a little sticker on the side with a diagram of how to hang the roll. It's not mandatory, but still. What difference does it make?

Everyone's just jumping on the banned-wagon.
