Asperger syndrome: Like father, like son
Asperger syndrome: Like father, like son
At 44, I'd given up hope of having a family of my own. Then Jane spoke to me.
She had beautiful, caring eyes. No other human being had ever reached out to me so tenderly before.
For the first time, I became obsessed with another person, instead of a subject.
When I was diagnosed with Asperger syndrome two years ago, I was relieved to be able to make sense of my life at last.
But I feel bitter the diagnosis came so late. Had I known I had Asperger syndrome as a child, I would have understood my limitations better.
I would have lived my life differently and wouldn't have chosen careers requiring teamwork.
Fortunately, our son won't have to face the obstacles I've faced. I'm hugely relieved we know Thomas has Asperger syndrome and he has the support he needs.
Asperger syndrome hasn't stopped me finding a wonderful wife and having two adorable children, and it needn't stop others with the condition doing the same. view article
It's lovely to see a positive article about AS: I also wish I'd have been diagnosed around the time I started having significant difficulties mostly resulting from AS - at around age 18. Even a diagnosis at 25 or thereabouts would have been good.
