Jessica Wehrman: Families of autistic searching for cause

The Pineaus, who are stationed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, and 64 other Ohio families are involved in a research project spearheaded by Dr. Gail Herman, a clinical geneticist with Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus.

Herman has, until now, operated the program on a shoestring budget. But now she's counting on a boost — Congress earlier this year passed a Defense Appropriations bill that includes a $1.5 million earmark for her research.

I'm honestly just hoping that it shows that it's a biological thing," she said. "And then maybe we can figure how — not to cure it, I don't see it as something that can be cured — but something to help us help our children along."

Yes, those people who are selling total cure are hoodwinking parents and costing them heaps of money which could be better spent on making life more comfortable for themselves and their children.
