World chess champion Bobby Fischer dies

REYKJAVIK, Iceland - Bobby Fischer, the reclusive chess master who became a Cold War icon when he dethroned the Soviet Union's Boris Spassky as world champion in 1972, has died. He was 64.
Fischer died Thursday in a Reykjavik hospital, his spokesman Gardar Sverrisson said. There was no immediate word on the cause of death.

It's too bad he's gone and that his life was overshadowed by such tabloid intrigue. I"m teaching my son chess in hopes he'll enjoy it and learn about predicting and strategizing.

There's no doubt about it, Bobby Fischer was an excellent chess player. However, he did things that I wouldn't do when it came to life outside of chess. It's amazing how things unfolded.
