And I just saw Kevin Rudd's apology on TV.

Don't know about you but I've never personally done anything bad to Aborigines.

Except in school where we were asked to draw a new Aussie Flag and I had one being shot by a white settler on it.

I got 8/10 for it.

Got a phone call from my wife this morning...

The news was on and they were talking about saying sorry.

My eldest (7) said; "Today, the boss of Australia is going to say sorry to the Aborigines for taking their Chinese babies and forgetting to feed them".

*Facepalms.*

better late than never. Next thing you know, we'll have to apologize to our own aborigines. However, I think they're getting their revenge through cigarettes...

I was so happy that the apology finally came.

I have aboriginal friends affected by the Stolen Generation, and this is fantastic for them to start healing.

they took abo children away from their parents, and let non-abo people raise them as 'white'. Stopped doing it about '70 or so.

It isn't good but in some cases it would have given the kids better lives. Unfortunately our Aboriginals have a problem with alcohol - presumably because they don't have years of tolerance build-up.

The people doing the deeds thought they were doing the right thing at the time - in pretty much the same way a lot of people seem to think it's a good idea to remove children from aspie parents.

What compounded the problem was that in a lot of cases, these children were given to worse parents.

I'd like to say that Australia (and the world) has learned this lesson, but it seems as if children are still being taken from their parents, it's just the excuses that have changed.

i lived in Mt Isa for 13 years and taught many aborigines. 50 aboriginals and 50 teachers developed a teaching kit - Being an Aboriginal in NW Queensland. It was a wonderful experience and I learnt so much.

I did all my primary schooling in australia then moved to New zealand .. so yea i got a few theories eh maories etc lol.. hmm aboriginals etc.. interesting seeing the differences.. eh.. welll..

I think it should be day of celebration.. a national holiday Or something
