And then, to add to the confusion men have in trying to read non-verbal cues, some women admit that they flirt a bit all the time as their normal way of talking to people, because it's easier for them to be liked / get what they want when they flirt just a little bit with everybody. So, if the normally-clueless guy does correctly indentify her social flirting, he'll think it's just meant for him, and that's where he really gets thrown off.

He's being very logical about it:

1) "I know she's flirting."

Answer: Correct.

2) "I know she's talking to me."

Answer: Correct.

3) "Therefore, she wants me to ask her out."

Answer: Not necessarily. She may just flirt freely, and may not even realize it.
Action to take: Subtly seek confirmation.
And this, once again, is an almost unnavigable arena for most Aspie guys, and it is mined with confidence-smashing pitfalls.
(Not to sound negative or anything! I have a girlfriend, after all, so there's always hope for Aspie guys!)

So it's not just me, it's not just aspies, all men have this problem? Maybe the women should hold a communications seminar and standardize their signals.
