105-Year-Old Virgin Says Celibacy Key to Long Life
Friday, October 10, 2008

E-Mail Print Share:

A 105-year-old virgin has revealed her secret to long life — celibacy.

Clara Meadmore, who celebrated her birthday with a drop of wine at the Perran Bay nursing home in Cornwall, England, said she imagined there was "a lot of hassle" involved in having sex, Agence France-Presse reported Friday.

"People have asked me whether I am a homosexual and the answer is no," she told AFP.

"I have just never been interested in sex," added Meadmore, who received a birthday card from Queen Elizabeth II.

Meadmore was born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1903. She lived in Canada and New Zealand as a child, and served in the Egypt army during World War II. She returned to Britain in her 20s and moved to Cornwall 40 years ago.

Then why aren't all nuns, and priests growing to be very, very old? Either being celibate isn't the answer to longevity, or nuns have some explaining to do.

Ishmael and myself have done "some" life-extension research.

It has crossed my mind that celibacy might be exchangeable for immortality, especially because I have looked for answers in the bible as well as science, and the bible does say there will be 144,000 immortal virgins in the Millenium.

I have also observed that non-celibate "age peers" already have gray hair and I don't. My definition of celibacy is that of virginity, or asexuality, BUT NOT eunucity. Is eunucity a word? I mean that castration might extend life but is not necessary, ordinary celibacy also does ... I think.

Excuse me for the obviously rude and brazen joke.. Since when are priests celibate?

A good healthy diet and a good immune system is all it takes to live long. That's why Japan has the highest life expectancy rate in the world, their traditional diet is low in calories and rich in sea food. Omega 3 fatty acids are good for you.

Also, the paleolithic diet has show some interesting results in preventing heart diseases.

Other than that, living a long life depends on luck, and strong genes. Even when the average life expectancy around the world 2 centuries back was 30-40 years of age, there were people who lived up to 100 or more.

Hmmm...I guess this could lead to one potential way of saving money for those who are short in supply.

Don't do Viagra, Viagra can lead to bad choices and deadly outcomes, m'kay? :nerdy:

Maybe she's just asexual, she just has no interest in it. either way, nothing wrong with it. Way to go lady for making it to 105.

I hope masturbation doesn't shorten the long-life celibacy :P
