This is the worst case of political corruption I've ever encountered! I'm shocked!

Vote Early, Vote Often!” is a quote variously attributed to three different Chicagoans: Al Capone, the famous gangster; Richard J. Daley, mayor from 1955 to 1976; and William Hale Thompson, mayor from 1915-1923 and 1931-1935. All three were notorious for their corruption and their manipulation of the democratic process. It is most likely that Thompson invented the phrase, and Capone and Daley later repeated it.

Welcome to Illinois.

Wow, that's pretty shocking. Maybe if I knew something about Chicago politics it wouldn't be. Is the governor someone Obama would be close to?

Rod Blagojevich is the governor of my state. Not many people in the Illinois General Assembly, not even the Democrats. I talked to my state rep today in person and he said that there is a chance of impeachment. I say that he should resign at let Pat Quinn become governor. At least Quinn have common sense, traveling around the state and advocacy important issues, while Blagojevich flew in a jet everyday from Chicago to Springfield, wasting tax dollars. HELLO, the Illinois capital is in Springfield, NOT Chicago.

At a press conference Tuesday, US attorney Patrick Fitzgerald said, "The most cynical behavior, the most appalling, is the fact Gov. Blagojevich tried to sell the appointment of the Senate seat vacated by President-elect Obama. The conduct would make [Abraham] Lincoln roll over in his grave." (quote mentioned in quite a few articles)

CNN update: He been released on a $4,500 bail, which is stupid. If I was the judge, I would remand him.

For those that love reading about crime, here is the 75 page complaint.

To clarify in my previous post, the idiom "roll in one's grave" means that if the person that died were present, they would been upset. In by saying this, if Lincoln was alive, he would been upset.

Rod Blagojevich, bend over and grab your ankle, because you are this weeks Real American A**Hole.

Got that line off a local radio station... simply substitute the name with anyone you want. Perfect!

People in Illinois have known Blagojevich is nuts for quite a while.

Chicago Magazine had an article last February 2008 about what a maniac he is.

I agree. Even the Democrats in Illinois don't even like him.

Is it true that they still do the Tammany Hall-esque political machine system up there, like they did in the 1800s?

I agree... he poses an immediate threat to the people of Illinois, and indeed to the entire nation. He should be cooling his ass in jail.

Good question. The whole town votes Democratic. If there is a Machine, its a Machine that feeds their own people into the game.
The G.O.P. in this town is an ineffective joke. They don't even bother to take their own people running for office serious because the whole town votes Democratic period.

But the thing to remember here with Blagojevich is that he ditched the Machine as soon as he became governor.
His father-in-law's role in the Machine was what got him into politics and after just a few days in office he'd cut relationship with even his father-in-law.

The guy doesn't have many friends in politics and just about every politician, especially in Chicago, has hated his guts for years.

If you like arrogant and creepy, Blagojevich and his wife are your people.

Yes, they live in Chicago but that's because the mrs. refuses to move to the governor's mansion in the state capital, Springfield.
So, Illinois has to foot the commute bill by air because the 4 hour drive each way is too much for Blagojevich.
Oh please!

The only good thing I've seen him do is make drive through toll gates (Yes, we still have toll roads in this state.) and we all know it was his project because he's got massive signs posted that its by his graces it was done.

I've been reading news reports about this today - it really does sound akin to Tammany Hall.
