Unfortunately, my grandmother (a nurse practitioner for the last 20 years) confirmed everything that the article said. Some doctors don't even wash their hands after going to the bathroom (EW! EW! EW!).

Semmelwiess discovered the concept, but it depends on a lot of things. Quality of the medical establishment, supplies of antibacterial cleaners, bacteria that have adjusted to anti-biotics, etc.

ugh, I think they've had to bring in compulsory handwashing for hospital staff in one state here. they are generally germ vectors though anyway and you'd be well advised to stay out of them if at all possible.
