regarding the story. I'm not going to lie, but as mean as this sounds, I admittedly had to say 'that is awesome', if for nothing else, then at least the novelty factor. Santa Claus coming in and busting caps in people's ass and setting the whole f*****g house on fire afterwards. I remember some people making semi-jokes/plans about doing things like that in bunny suits, or going on rampages in chain mail or whatnot, but Santa really sets that standard high in novelty. Kind've like the 'Killer Clown'

and I still agree. Seriously, you have to admit, whether you're happy with this or not, a guy dressed like Santa taking out a shotgun and shooting an 8 year old in the head, then capping everyone else and burning the house down is pretty novel and interesting as a way of revenge.

Futurama already did the story. No need for bad reruns.

there's a little bit of good in the story as there's evidence he planned an escape with loads of money on him and so the whole suicide thing must've come to him hard. the third degree burns and the fact the suit melted makes me feel karma might be doing the right thing for once.

Nobody mentions the fantasy element of crime. The 'F' word is a dirty word. Where as 'deprived', and 'role models', and 'family troubles' are big buzz words.

I suspect the fantasy element is some of the appeals to you. It is like a lot of kids that come from a not well off area, but really it is nothing like some of the places I've been to, for instance Angola during the civil war. One of the biggest problems these kids face is not hunger, or lack of sanitation, but boredom and lack of recognition. This is where the fantasy element fits in, they dream up a world that doesn't exist. These people would not even be small time, if were not for the fact that organized criminals (who could give a s**t) know how to exploit this. That is if they think they are worth anything to them in the first place.

That is pretty much criminality 101. I suspect this guy thought he was just being a smart arse. But naturally there are going to be fans of this type.

People complain about how bad their 'hood is, yet when they get an opportunity to get out of there they are dragged back down.

Novelty wears off. This not that original really.

It somewhat reminds of a movie I once saw. "Santa's Slay"

On the "Awesome Revenge" scale, dressing up as Santa ranks above deporting them and just below pretending to be the second coming of Christ and starting a suicide cult.

D-FENS! if you've read the followups to the story, it's way too much like the movie "falling down".

I was thinking exactly the same thing, except D-fens wasn't really a bad guy, he just kept encountering obnoxious people...

Something tells me that the boys over on 4chan and something awful are having a field day with this, like having two Christmases for them.

Anybody remember the Evil Santa from the movie A Christmas Story, the guy who tells the kid he'll shoot his eye out with the BB gun and then shoves him down the slide with a boot to the face? I can picture him doing something like that. Santa's Slay was another cool evil Santa story. I didn't like Adam Sandler's Bad Santa though, too much potty humor and bad genitalia jokes. That's pretty much Sandler's MO anyway, which is why I don't care for his stuff. Sasha Baron Cohen can be funny, although I feel bad for the people he tricks, but Sandler is just a gutter comic.

I knew the victims. They were good people.

Anyone who thinks their murders were "cool" or "awesome" does not deserve to be a member of WrongPlanet, in my opinion.

I do not find it funny or amusing at all... and yes I do occasionally get a vicarious thrill from horrible news stories. Not this one though.

You also have to wonder if his son's brain damage was really caused by "accident" now that he showed what he is capable of.

9 people shot or burned to death is not funny.
13 orphaned children is not funny.
A little girl shot in the face for being the first to greet "Santa" is not funny.
And the fact that the perpetrator committed suicide after giving himself 3rd-degree burns is not funny.

Nor is any of this "pretty novel and interesting as a way of revenge."

It's sick, horrible, and tragic.

I for one am done defending my sense of humor to people, I was born with it and I won't apologize for it. I think that being able to see the humor in tragedy is a pretty common Aspie trait, and that if anything it should be considered a positive trait, not something to be ashamed of.

Even the most self righteous members here have to acknowledge that a man deciding that the best way to get revenge on his ex is to don a Santa costume and wield a home made flame thrower concealed in a fake "gift" is some pretty humorous imagery, even if the reality is truly tragic. It's not the deaths that are funny, it's the thought process behind it that would think up such a plan, let alone execute it. Add in that evil Santas are a horror and comedy staple, and how can you blame people for chuckling at first when they see the headline about a flamethrower spraying bad Santa? It's so demented that you can hardly believe it actually happened, it really does seem straight out of a movie.

And just a little FYI for any not so swift members thinking of responding, I will be reporting any personal attacks in this thread, since I've grown tired of the hit and run sniping.

Just to prove that I'm an equal opportunity offender, if my family should be attacked by a chainsaw wielding Easter Bunny or Mickey Mouse with a minigun, you all have my official permission to make fun of it on the internet.

I've been called self-righteous often enough to qualify, and I see no humor at all.

9 people I knew are now dead, 3 more are seriously wounded, and 13 children are now orphaned, thanks to some eff-head who could think only of means to murder and incinerate others out of some irrational sense of "justice" or "revenge" instead of how to advance or enhance his own state of being. There is nothing funny at all about this.
