The New HIV Treatment

I think this is fantastic this treatment could possibly save millions of lives with little to no risk of the HIV virus adapting to overcome this treatment. Perhaps this will be the first step in making people resistant to the point they never develop aids which is possible because someone people infected with the HIV virus naturally are so resistant they never develop AIDs.

the only problem is most people wont be able to afford the treatment, countries where aids is a major problem will never benifit from this scientific breakthrough as only the rich will be able to survive past it.

At first that is true however as production costs go down more and more people will be able to receive this treatment ^_^ one day it will be available to the poor although it will be a hand out but still it should be able to help millions ^_^

a handfull of rice costs next to nothing and can save someone from sarving to death yet famine is still a major problem in many countries throughout the world, hunger would be easier to beat than hiv yet whilst it's still running rampent i can't honestly believe the poor victims of the virus will be able to get the cure.

How will the treatment alter one gene without causing dreadful genetic damage to the rest of the person's genome. I worry that a drug which alters DNA may cause cancer.

An interesting concept, Curing HIV by artificially giving people the genetic immunity. I suppose it's possible a strain will develop that can infect altered T-cells, but that still means the current strain is curable (although I'm not sure if HIV is particularly prone to mutation).

Hopefully through this or perhaps other methods, HIV will just become one of those vaccines everyone (except a few people with paranoid parents ) gets in childhood. Eventually enough people will take up the cause and effectively eradicated from the 3rd world too.
