Lately it seems like the quality of things in general has gone down, and standards and expectations are lower. Agreed? I'm not talking about morals necessarily, though it may apply there, too. I'm thinking food, construction, instructions, safety behaviour, just general attention to detail. Maybe because the perfectionist nature of my work the past several years, I'm just seeing it differently now, but even though we're paying more for everything it seems quality has gone down.
People drive worse than ever. They're ruder than ever, less willing to admit a mistake than ever. No one takes the time to listen, though giving lip service to the importance of it at times. No one takes the time to think. They just run, run, run, until they get a chance to slack, slack, slack.
I have a supposedly nice apartment in a well run modern building, but everything is the cheapest and shoddily and stupidly done. I guess they are only paying attention to the bottom line, which seems to be something they do well. ("PIck your battles.) My previous apartment was shockingly damaged in a way that was not apparent when I rented; I disputed this with the tenancy agency and the landlord won, even though he is a lying slimeball and the apartment violated the health code and general principles of sanity. (You wouldn't believe the details if I told you. I'm still shaking my head a year later.)
Clearly I need to be rich so I can afford the best in everything and get away from this "reality" as much as possible. Anything half decent in quality seems to be marked up by multiples of 100%.
